Clinical Study on External Application of Scorzonera Herpes Ointment Combined with Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate for Injection in Treating Herpes Zoster Oticus
Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of external application of Scorzonera Herpes Ointment combined with Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate for Injection on herpes zoster oticus (HZO). Methods:A total of 100 HZO patients were selected from NO. 988 Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force and Henan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2021 to June 2023. They were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. The two groups were treated with Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate for Injection. On this basis, the treatment group was treated with external application of Scorzonera Herpes Ointment, and the control group was treated with external application of Acyclovir Ointment. Both groups were treated for 10 days. The clinical effects, total scores of symptoms and signs, pain degree by Visual Analogue Scale( VAS),time of erythema reduction, vesiculation, scab formation and scab removal, incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN),and the threshold of air conduction hearing and air-bone conduction were compared between the two groups. Results:After 10 days of treatment, the total effective rate was 98.00% (49/50) in the treatment group and 84.00% (42/50) in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After 10 days of treatment, the total scores of symptoms and signs and VAS scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the total scores of symptoms and signs and the VAS score in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). The time of erythema reduction, vesiculation, scab formation and scab removal in the treatment group was respectively shorter than that in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). Follow up for one month after treatment, there was no PHN occurrence in the treatment group and the PHN incidence in the control group was 24.00% (12/50) ,the difference being significant (P<0.05). After 10 days of treatment, the threshold of air conduction hearing in both groups and the air-bone conduction in the treatment group were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the threshold of air conduction hearing and the air-bone conduction in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the comparison of air-bone conduction in the control group before treatment and 10 days after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion: The external application of Scorzonera Herpes Ointment combined with Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate for Injection can relieve pain, reduce PHN,shorten the disease course and improve hearing in treating HZO.
