Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of point application with Huoxue Huayu Zhitong Paste combined with extracorporeal shock wave on achilles tendinitis. Methods： A total of 80 patients with achilles tendinitis were retrospectively selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to different treatment methods， with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with extracorporeal shock wave therapy， and the observation group was additionally treated with point application with Huoxue Huayu Zhitong Paste based on the treatment of the control group. The treatment for both groups lasted for four weeks. The clinical effects in the two groups were evaluated； the scores of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)， Activity of Daily Living (ADL) Scale and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOAFS) were compared before and after treatment between the two groups；the incidence of adverse reactions of patients was recorded. Results：The total effective rate was 92.5% in the observation group， higher than that of 67.5% in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the VAS scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the VAS score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the scores of ADL and AOFAS in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P＜ 0.05)， and the scores of ADL and AOFAS in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of point application with Huoxue Huayu Zhitong Paste combined with extracorporeal shock wave has a great clinical effect on achilles tendinitis，which can reduce the pain degree of patients，improve the quality of life and promote the recovery of normal ankle joint activity.
