Effect of Wheat-Grain Size Cone Moxibustion Combined with Levodopa and Benserazide Hydrochloride on Cognitive Function and Levels of Serum Hcy and NSE in Treatment of Parkinson's Disease
Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of wheat-grain size cone moxibustion combined with Levodopa and Benserazide Hydrochloride on cognitive function and levels of serum homocysteine (Hcy) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods:A total of 106 cases of PD patients were selected and randomly divided into the combination group and the control group, with 53 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Levodopa and Benserazide Hydrochloride, and the combination group was additionally treated with wheat-grain size cone moxibustion based on the treatment of the control group. Changes in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, the scores of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and the Mini-Mental Status Exam (MMSE), and the levels of serum Hcy and NSE were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The incidence of adverse reactions was compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, TCM syndrome scores in the two groups were declined when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05),and TCM syndrome scores in the combination group were lower than those in the control group (P< 0.05). After treatment, the scores of mentation, activities of daily living, motor examination, and motor complications in UPDRS in the two groups were reduced when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05), and each score in the combination group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of MMSE in the two groups were elevated when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the scores of MMSE in the combination group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum Hcy and NSE in the two groups were declined when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels of serum Hcy and NSE in the combination group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 15.09% in the combination group and 5.66% in the control group, there being no significance in the difference (P>0.05). Conclusion: In the treatment of PD, wheat-grain size cone moxibustion combined with Levodopa and Benserazide Hydrochloride can improve clinical symptoms and cognitive function of patients, and reduce the levels of serum Hcy and NSE.
