Abstract： This paper introduces the clinical experience of Chinese Medicine Master GE Linyi in differentiating and treating influenza with clearing method. GE Linyi believes that influenza belongs to the wind-warmth lung disease in Chinese medicine，with the pathogenesis of lung qi heat constraint. In clinical diagnosis， Chinese medicine practitioners should adopt the methods of clearing-diffusing and clearingdirecting downwards to vent pathogen and diffuse the lung， and adopt the methods of clearingsupplementing and clearing-nourishing to reinforce healthy qi and dispel pathogen according to the depth of pathogen and the severity of disease. This reflects the simultaneous treatment of both the root and the branch：in treating the branch，it is to clear and diffuse，clear and direct downwards，and soothe the qi movement； in treating the root， it is to clear and supplement， clear and nourish， and dispel internal phlegm and stasis， showing the principle of reinforcing the original qi and clearing the source， and regulating and supplementing. The treatment is modified according to different symptoms， whose medication is simple but strives for less dose and rapid effect.
