Abstract： Objective： To observe the synergistic effect and safety of Xiaozhang Paiqi Decoction combined with Chinese medicine hot package on the recovery of gastrointestinal function after cesarean section. Methods： A total of 120 postpartum women who underwent cesarean section were randomly divided into the control group，the hot package group，and the combination group，with 40 cases in each group. The control group received routine treatment after surgery，the hot package group was treated with Chinese medicine hot package on abdominal points in addition to the treatment of the control group， and the combination group was treated with Xiaozhang Paiqi Decoction based on the treatment of the hot package group. Compared the recovery time of the first bowel sounds， the first exhaust time， the first defecation time， postoperative hospitalization time， incidence of abdominal distension， visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of abdominal pain at 6，24，48，and 72 hours after surgery among the three groups of postpartum women，and observed the occurrence of adverse reactions. Results：The recovery time of the first bowel sound，the first exhaust time，the first defecation time，and the postoperative hospitalization time in the hot package group and the combination group were all shorter than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The recovery time of the first bowel sound， the first exhaust time， the first defecation time， and the postoperative hospitalization time in the combination group were all shorter than those in the hot package group (P＜0.05). The incidence of postoperative abdominal distension in both of the hot package group and the combination group was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05)； the incidence of abdominal distension in the combination group was lower than that in the hot package group (P＜0.05). Starting from six hours after surgery， the VAS scores for abdominal pain in all the three groups were decreased over time (P＜0.05). The VAS scores of abdominal pain in the hot package group and the combination group were lower than those in the control group at 6， 24， 48， and 72 hours after surgery (P＜0.05). The VAS scores of abdominal pain in the combination group were lower than those in the hot package group at 24，48，and 72 hours after surgery (P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions among the three groups (P＞0.05). Conclusion： Xiaozhang Paiqi Decoction and Chinese medicine hot package has a definite therapeutic effect on the recovery of gastrointestinal function after cesarean section，which can alleviate the abdominal pain of postpartum women and promote their early recovery.
