Abstract: This paper introduces the experience of HUANG Peixin in treating hemifacial spasm after facial paralysis from four aspects of deficiency, wind, phlegm and stasis. According to HUANG Peixin, the pathogenesis of hemifacial spasm is deficiency in the root and excess in the branch. Deficiency in the root refers to the deficiency of qi,blood, yin and yang, the consumption and depletion due to chronic disease, and the failure of tendons to be nourished. Excess in the branch means that the co-incidence of the wind, phlegm and stasis obstructs the face vessels. The disease location is mainly related to the lung, spleen and liver. In clinical practice, the treatments start from the four aspects of deficiency, wind, phlegm and stasis, so as to regulate the descending and ascending of the lung, liver and spleen in terms of qi movement. The treatment principles are to supplement deficiency and dispell pathogenic qi as well as regulate and harmonize qi and blood, supplemented by reinforcing healthy qi, dispelling the wind, invigorating the blood and resolving the phlegm, and the treatments are flexibly modified according to different syndromes,so as to harmonize the disease.
