Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of Wuling Capsules assisting western medicine on senile depression and its influence on serum 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE). Methods: A total of 92 elderly patients with depression included in the study were divided into an observation group and a control group using a simple randomization method, with 46 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with Wuling Capsules and Escitalopram Tablets, and the control group was treated with Escitalopram Tablets only. The clinical effects and adverse reactions, and the degree of depression and serum 5-HT and NE levels were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate was 91.30% in the observation group, higher than that of 76.09% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) in both groups were decreased (P<0.05), and the HAMD score in the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the serum 5-HT and NE levels in the two groups were increased (P<0.05), and the above two levels in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:Wuling Capsules has a significant therapeutic effect on assisting western medicine to treat senile patients with depression and can effectively reduce the degree of depression in patients, whose mechanism of action may be related to the increase of 5-HT and NE levels, with great medicine safety.
