Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of Qutan Huayu Xiaotong Prescription combined with routine western medicine on acute gouty arthritis and its effects on the serum inflammatory factors. Methods：A total of 80 patients with acute gouty arthritis were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method， with 40 cases in each group. The control group was given routine western medicine for treatment，and the observation group was additionally treated with Qutan Huayu Xiaotong Prescription based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effects in the two groups were evaluated. The scores of symptoms，the levels of uric acid (UA)， tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α)， interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) and the safety of treatment were compared between the two groups. Results： The total effective rate was 97.50% in the observation group，higher than that of 85.00% in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of joint pain and redness and swelling in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the above two scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of UA， TNF- α， IL-1β and IL-6 in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the above four levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). There was no significance being found in the comparison of incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P＞0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of Qutan Huayu Xiaotong Prescription combined with western medicine has a definite curative effect on acute gouty arthritis，which can effectively improve the symptoms and decrease the levels of UA and inflammatory factors with great safety.
