Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with Zhutan Tongluo Decoction of traditional She medicine on hypertension with carotid arteriosclerosis of phlegm-stasis obstructing collaterals type. Methods：A total of 60 patients with hypertension with carotid arteriosclerosis of phlegm-stasis obstructing collaterals type were selected and divided into the control group and the treatment group according to the random number table method，with 30 cases in each group. The control group was given conventional western medicine， and the treatment group was treated with acupuncture combined with Zhutan Tongluo Decoction of traditional She medicine based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The levels of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores， blood pressure， carotid intima-media thickness (IMT)， brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and ankle-brachial index (ABI) were compared before and after treatment，and the clinical effects in the two groups were also compared. Results： The total effective rate was 93.33% in the treatment group， higher than that of 73.33% in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the TCM syndrome scores，diastolic blood pressure (DBP)，systolic blood pressure (SBP)，IMT，baPWV in both groups were significantly decreased (P＜0.05)， and ABI levels were significantly increased (P＜0.05). Compared with those in the control group after treatment，the TCM syndrome scores，DBP，SBP，IMT，baPWV in the treatment group were significantly decreased (P＜0.05)， and ABI was significantly increased (P＜0.05). Conclusion： Acupuncture combined with Zhutan Tongluo Decoction of traditional She medicine can improve the clinical effect on patients with hypertension with carotid arteriosclerosis of phlegm-stasis obstructing collaterals type， reduce blood pressure， improve vascular elasticity， and relieve clinical symptoms.
