Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Bushen Juanbi Decoction combined with acupuncture for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation. Methods: A total of 60 cases of patients with sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine acupuncture, and the observation group was treated with Bushen Juanbi Decoction based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated continuously for 14 days. The clinical effects and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores, and levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and phospholipase A2 (PLA2) were compared between two groups before and after treatment. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 90.00% in the observation group, higher than that of 83.33% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS scores ,IL-6 and PLA2 levels in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the JOA scores were increased (P<0.05);the VAS score,IL-6 and PLA2 levels in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05),and the JOA score was higher than that in the control group (P< 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of Bushen Juanbi Decoction and acupuncture has a definite curative effect on sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation, which can alleviate pain, improve lumbar function, and inhibit the body's inflammatory responses.
