Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of acupuncture combined with auricular point seed- pressing on tobacco dependence and to evaluate its health economics benefit. Methods：A total of 60 patients with tobacco dependence were included and divided into the study group and the control group according to the random number table method， with 30 cases in each group. The study group was given acupuncture combined with auricular seed-pressing for treatment，and the control group was treated with Nicotine Patches. The success rates of quitting smoking， the exhaled carbon monoxide (CO) values， scores of Fagerstrm Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND)， Autonomy over Tobacco Scale (AUTOS) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) before and after treatment， and the costs necessary to improve the above indexes were compared between the two groups. Results：① In terms of clinical effect， there were 5 patients who stopped smoking in the study group with a success rate of 16.7%；there were 7 patients who quitted smoking in the control group，with a success rate of 23.3%； there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of success rate between the two groups (P＞0.05). After treatment， respectively comparing the exhaled CO values and scores of FTND， AUTOS and HAMA in both groups with those before treatment，differences were significant (P＜0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparisons of exhaled CO values and scores of FTND，AUTOS and HAMA between the two groups (P＞0.05). ② In terms of evaluation results of health economics benefit，the total cost was 32 720.00 yuan in the study group and 50 968.80 yuan in the control group，the difference being significant (P＜0.05). For every 1 ppm decrease in exhaled CO value，the cost required for the study group was 284.52 yuan，and it was 407.75 yuan in the control group. For every 1 score reduction in FTND， the cost required for the study group was 348.09 yuan， and it was 579.19 yuan in the control group. For every 1 score reduction in AUTOS，the cost required for the study group was 113.61 yuan，and it was 146.88 yuan in the control group. For every 1 score reduction in HAMA， the cost required for the study group was 203.23 yuan， and it was 337.54 yuan in the control group. Conclusion： The therapy of acupuncture combined with auricular point seed- pressing or Nicotine Patches have a comparable curative effect，which can mitigate tobacco dependence and anxiety，and help quit smoking. However，to achieve similar effect，the required cost of therapy of acupuncture combined with auricular point seed-pressing is lower.
