Abstract: The term “dragon- tiger loop” describes the ascending and descending of qi movement governed by the liver and the lung, that is, liver qi ascending on the left and lung qi descending on the right. The two organs govern the qi movement of the whole body with one left and one right, and one ascending and one descending. An orderly qi movement governed by the liver and the lung can harmonize qi and blood and prevent the occurrence of diseases. The key to the pathogenesis of hypertension lies in the disorder of the liver- lung qi movement and the disharmony of qi and blood. Under the guidance of the theory of "dragon- tiger loop", this article elaborates on hypertension from four aspects, namely "liver qi ascending too much", "lung qi deficiency", "liver deficiency and lung qi stagnation", and "liver constraint and lung blocking". In terms of treatment, methods such as "calming the liver, nourishing the liver, and dispersing the liver" and "tonifying the lung, regulating the lung, and diffusing the lung" can be adopted to regulate the liver-lung qi movement. Clinical symptoms can be improved by methods such as "boosting qi, activating blood, dispelling phlegm, resolving blood stasis, subduing yang, and nourishing yin" based on different clinical manifestations. Finally, it is hope to provide new clinical ideas for the treatment of hypertension in Chinese medicine.
