Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of adjuvant treatment of Cannabis Fructus for children with functional constipation and its effect on intestinal function. Methods:A total of 78 hospitalized children with functional constipation were selected and randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, with 39 cases in each group. The control group was treated with lactose combined with dietary therapy, and the observation group received adjuvant treatment with Cannabis Fructus based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were given a 4- week treatment course. The improvement of constipation symptoms, gastrointestinal motility indicators, and gastrointestinal hormone levels were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. The clinical effects and recurrence rates of constipation were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate was 92.31% in the observation group, higher than that of 74.36% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the proportion of constipation pain, dry and hard stools, and frequency of bowel movements less than once per day in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05);the constipation pain, dry and hard stools, and frequency of bowel movements less than once per day in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the minimum sensitivity maximum tolerance, maximum systolic pressure of the anal sphincter, the serum vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), and serum gastrin (GAS) levels in both groups were decreased compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and substance P (SP) levels were increased (P<0.05); after treatment, the minimum sensitivity, maximum tolerance, maximum systolic pressure of the anal sphincter and serum VIP,GAS levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05),and the serum SP levels was higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After a 2-month follow- up, the recurrence rate was 5.56% in the observation group, lower than that of 34.48% in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Cannabis Fructus has a definite curative effect in the auxiliary treatment of functional constipation in children, which can improve gastrointestinal dynamics, restore gastrointestinal hormone levels, and reduce constipation recurrence rates.
