Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Danzi Kangxi Granules combined with warmingneedle moxibustion for knee osteoarthritis of liver-kidney depletion type. Methods：A total of 120 cases of patients with knee osteoarthritis of liver-kidney depletion type were divided into four groups (A，B，C，D) according to the random number table method，with 30 cases in each group. All patients were treated with routine quadriceps functional exercise and health education； the Group A was additionally given the oral administration of Celeoxib Capsules， the Group B was additionally treated with warming- needle moxibustion，the Group C was additionally given the oral administration of Danzi Kangxi Granules，and the Group D was additionally treated with Danzi Kangxi Granules combined with warming-needle moxibustion. All the groups were treated for 4 weeks. The clinical effects in the four groups were evaluated；the levels of interleukin- 8 (IL- 8)，vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF- 2) were detected before and after treatment in the four groups； the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC)， Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores， quality of life scores and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores were compared before and after treatment among the four groups； the incidence of adverse reactions in the four groups was analyzed. Results： The total effective rate was 93.33% in the Group D，higher than those in the other three groups (P＜0.05). After treatment， VAS scores，WOMAC scores，TCM syndrome scores，and the levels of IL- 8 and VEGF in serum in the four groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05). The VAS score， WOMAC score，TCM syndrome score，and the levels of IL- 8 and VEGF in serum in the Group D were lower than those in the other three groups (P＜0.05). After treatment， FGF- 2 levels and quality of life scores in the four groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the FGF- 2 levels and quality of life scores were higher than those in the other three groups (P＜0.05). Conclusion：Danzi Kangxi Granules combined with warming-needle moxibustion for knee osteoarthritis of liver- kidney depletion type can significantly relieve swelling and pain in knee joints，reduce inflammatory responses and improve knee joint function. The mechanism may be related to reducing the levels of IL- 8 and VGEF in serum， promoting the production of FGF- 2 to reduce inflammation， relieve analgesia and protect articular cartilage.
