Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of moxibustion combined with Clarithromycin for chronic sinusitis. Methods:A total of 140 cases of patients with chronic sinusitis were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method , with 70 cases in each group. The control group was treated with clarithromycin, and the observation group was additionally treated with moxibustion based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The scores of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Lund- Mackay, Lund- Kennedy, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, mucociliary transport rate (MTR), and mucociliary clearance (MCC) were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Clinical effects were evaluated in the two groups, and the incidence of adverse reactions was observed. Results:The total effective rate was 91.43% in the observation group, higher than that of 72.86% in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of nasal congestion, runny nose, swelling and pain on the head and face, hyposmia, and cough in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05),and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of VAS, Lund- Mackay, and Lund- Kennedy in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the scores of VAS, Lund- Mackay, and Lund-Kennedy in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, MTR and MCC in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and MTR and MCC in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:Moxibustion combined with Clarithromycin for chronic sinusitis can effectively alleviate clinical symptoms and improve nasal mucociliary clearance function and the quality of life of the patients.
