Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of blood- letting acupuncture on chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis. Methods：A total of 83 patients with chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis were divided into the treatment group (42 cases) and the control group (41 cases) by random number table method. The treatment group was treated with therapy of blood-letting acupuncture，and the control group was treated with ultrasonic atomization with western medicine. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores， inflammatory factors and T lymphocyte subsets were compared before and after treatment between the two groups； the clinical effects and occurrence of adverse reactions were also evaluated. Results：After treatment，the total effective rate was 97.62% in the treatment group，higher than that of 80.49% in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment，the TCM syndrome scores，including pharyngeal foreign body sensation，mucosal congestion，dry itching，swelling，burning and pain，and the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP)，interleukin-2 (IL-2) and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α) were lower than those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the levels of inflammatory factors and TCM syndrome scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of CD4+ in the two groups and the levels of CD3+ and CD4+/CD8+ in the treatment group were higher than those before treatment (P＜0.05)， and the levels of CD3 + ， CD4 + and CD4 +/CD8 + in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in the comparison of the level of CD8 + before and after treatment between the two groups， and there was no significant difference in the comparison of CD3 + and CD4 +/CD8 + in the control group before and after treatment (P＞ 0.05). No serious adverse reactions occurred in both groups. Conclusion： The therapy of blood- letting acupuncture has a definite therapeutic effect on chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis， which can improve the immune function and reduce the levels of inflammatory factors of the body，with great safety.
