Experience of SHI Xiaolin in Treating Postmenopausal Osteoporosis of Liver- Kidney Yin Deficiency Type from Sentence that "Kidney Suffers from Dryness and Can be Moistened by Acrid Medicinals"
Abstract: This paper introduces Professor SHI's clinical experience in treating postmenopausal osteoporosis of liver- kidney yin deficiency type from the sentence that "kidney suffers from dryness and can be moistened by acrid medicinals". Professor SHI believes the sentence that "kidney suffers from dryness" refers to the deficiency of kidney yin,as the kidney is easy to be damaged by internal dryness, resulting in depletion of kidney essence, decrease of essence and marrow. The pathogenesis of postmenopausal osteoporosis is decline of the body and deficiency and damage of zang-organs because of old age, mainly manifesting as liver- kidney yin deficiency, and then yin deficiency easily leads to stasis. Therefore, in terms of treatment, the priority is given to supplementing the liver and kidney to provide source for essence-blood transformation and generation and to nourish marrow, and the treatment also is complemented with acrid medicinals to warm yang and move qi, supplementing instead of stagnating, which eventually helps to achieve effects of promoting blood circulation to “moisten” the kidney and supplementing the kidney to strengthen bones.
