Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Compound Yuxingcao Mixture combined with western medicine for acute tonsillitis with external contraction and wind-heat syndrome. Methods：A total of 100 cases of patients with acute tonsillitis with external contraction and wind- heat syndrome were selected and divided into the treatment group and the control group， with 50 cases in each group. The control group was treated with western medicine，and the treatment group was additionally treated with Compound Yuxingcao Mixture based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 5 days. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores and inflammatory indexes before and after treatment，as well as clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Results：After treatment， the total clinical effective rate was 100% in the treatment group，higher than that of 88.00% in the control group (P＜0.05). The TCM syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the TCM syndrome score in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). The white blood cell count (WBC)，neutrophil count，and the levels of interleukin- 6 (IL- 6)， hypersensitivity C- reactive protein (hs- CRP)， tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α) and calcitonin (PCT) in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P＜0.05)，and the above 6 levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05). Conclusion： Compound Yuxingcao Mixture combined with western medicine for acute tonsillitis with external contraction and wind- heat syndrome can enhance clinical effects， more effectively relieve clinical symptoms，alleviate body inflammatory responses，and improve body immune function.
