Study on Differences in Levels of PINP,β-CTX,and 25-(OH)VD in Patients with Post⁃ menopausal Osteoporosis of Different Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome Types
Abstract: Objective: To observe the differences in the levels of procollagen type Ⅰ N- terminal propeptide (PINP),β-collagen carboxy terminal peptide (β-CTX),and 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25-(OH)VD] in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) of different traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome types. Methods:A total of 72 cases of PMOP patients were included in the PMOP group, and according to TCM syndrome differentiation standard of osteoporosis, they were divided into 3 syndrome types, namely liver- kidney yin deficiency type, spleen- kidney yang deficiency type, and qi stagnation and blood stasis type. Another 70 postmenopausal non-osteoporotic women with similar age, menopausal years , and body mass with PMOP group were selected into the control group. The levels of PINP , β- CTX, and 25- (OH)VD in serum were detected, and the differences of the above indexes in PMOP patients of different TCM syndrome types were analyzed. Results:The levels of PINP and β-CTX in serum in the PMOP group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the 25- (OH)VD level in serum was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the overall comparison of age, menopausal age, menopausal years, and body mass index among PMOP patients of different TCM syndrome types (P>0.05). There were significant differences being found in the overall comparison of values of bone mineral density (BMD) in femoral trochanteric area, neck of femur, and L2-4 among PMOP patients of different TCM syndrome types (P<0.05). The BMD values of trochanteric area, neck of femur, and L2- 4 of patients of qi stagnation and blood stasis type were lower than those of liver-kidney yin deficiency type and spleen-kidney yang deficiency type (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of BMD values of trochanteric area, neck of femur, and L2- 4 between the PMOP patients of liver-kidney yin deficiency type and those of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type (P>0.05). The overall comparison of PINP levels in serum of PMOP patients with different TCM syndrome types was statistically significant (P<0.05),while the overall comparison of β-CTX and 25-(OH)VD levels in serum was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The level of serum PINP in PMOP patients of qi stagnation and blood stasis type were lower than those in PMOP patients of liver-kidney yin deficiency type and spleen- kidney yang deficiency type (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the levels of serum PINP between PMOP patients of spleen-kidney yang deficiency and that of liver- kidney yin deficiency type (P>0.05). Conclusion: The PINP and β- CTX in serum are highly expressed in PMOP patients, and serum 25- (OH) VD was lowly expressed. Among PMOP patients of different TCM syndrome types, the BMD values and expression levels of serum PINP in the patients of qi stagnation and blood stasis type were lower than those in the patients of spleen- kidney yang deficiency type and liver-kidney yin deficiency type, and there is no significant difference in the expression levels of serum β-CTX and 25-(OH)VD.
