Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of Suhuang Zhike Capsules on lung function and airway remodeling in patients in stable stage of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods : A total of 82 cases of patients in stable stage of COPD were selected as the study subjects and divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 41 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional symptomatic treatments, and the treatment group was additionally treated with Suhuang Zhike Capsules based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for three months. The lung function, airway remodeling, inflammation levels, and the scores of modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea scale were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and the ratio of the forced expiratory volume in the one second to the forced vital capacity of the lungs (FEV1/FVC) between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, FEV1 and FEV1/FVC in the two groups were increased (P<0.05), and FEV1 and FEV1/FVC in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the wall area (WA) and wall thickness (T) of airway between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment,WA and T in the two groups were decreased (P<0.05), and WA and T in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the levels of interleukin- 6 (IL- 6) and interleukin- 8 (IL- 8) in serum between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the levels of IL-6 and IL-8 in serum in the two groups were decreased (P<0.05),and the two levels in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of mMRC scores between the two groups (P> 0.05). After treatment,mMRC scores in the two groups were decreased (P<0.05),and the score in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion:Suhuang Zhike Capsules for patients in stable stage of COPD can improve their pulmonary ventilation function and delay the formation and development of airway remodeling.
