Clinical Study on Modified Moxibustion with Bowl Made of Flour Combined with Rou⁃ tine Treatment for Overweight or Obesity of Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-Damp Type in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of modified moxibustion with bowl made of flour combined with routine treatment for overweight or obesity of spleen deficiency and phlegm-damp type in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods:A total of 90 cases of T2DM patients with overweight or obesity of spleen deficiency and phlegm-damp type were selected and divided into the control group, the routine moxibustion group, and the modified moxibustion with bowl made of flour according to the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The three groups were given routine treatment including controlling blood glucose and health education; the routine moxibustion group was additionally treated with moxibustion, and the modified moxibustion with bowl made of flour group was treated with modified moxibustion with bowl made of flour at the Shenque point (CV8). The three groups were treated for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the indexes of obesity including body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, and the indexes of glycolipid metabolism including fasting blood glucose (FBG), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) were detected in the three groups, and the symptom scores and Diabetes Specificity Quality of Life Scale (DSQL) scores were evaluated. Results:After treatment, the indexes of obesity and glycolipid metabolism, symptom scores, and scores of physiological function,psychology/spirit,social relations, and curative effect in DSQL,and total scores of DSQL in the three groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, differences being significant (P<0.05). There were significant differences being found in the comparison of the indexes and scores in the three groups (P<0.05). The indexes and scores in the modified moxibustion with bowl made of flour group were lower than those in the control group and the routine moxibustion group, differences being significant (P<0.05). The indexes and scores in the routine moxibustion group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Based on routine treatment, the additional application of modified moxibustion with bowl made of flour for overweight or obesity of spleen deficiency and phlegm-damp type in patients with T2DM can effectively regulate levels of blood glucose, improve glycolipid metabolism and quality of life, and relieve clinical symptoms. In addition, the treatment process is comfortable and easy for patients to accept.
