Abstract: Objective: To observe the curative effect of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with western medicine for primary blepharospasm (PBS). Methods: A total of 90 cases of PBS patients were selected and divided into the observation group and the western medicine group according to the random number table method, with 45 cases in each group. The western medicine group was routinely given the oral administration of western medicine, and the observation group was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion combined with western medicine. The clinical effects, the incidence of adverse reactions and the recurrence rates in the two groups were compared. The changes in blepharospasm intensity (Cohen) scores and Jancovic Rating Scale (JRS) scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment,Cohen scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and Cohen score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,JRS scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and JRS score in the observation group was lower than that in the western medicine group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of clinical effect was 88.89% in the observation group and 75.56% in the western medicine group; there was significant difference being found in the comparison of Ridit analysis between the two groups (P<0.05). During the treatment, the incidence of adverse reactions was 4.44% in the observation group and 20.00% in the western medicine group, the difference being significant when comparing between the two groups (P<0.05). The recurrence rate was 17.50% in the observation group and 44.12% in the western medicine group, the difference being significant when comparing between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with western medicine for PBS has a better curative effect than simple western medicine, and it can alleviate clinical symptoms and reduce the recurrence rate.
