Abstract： Starting from the content in Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing(Shen Nong's Classic of the Materia Medica) that “Cinnamomi Ramulus is acrid in flavour，and warm in nature. It is mainly used for cough with counterflow qi ascent，qi knotting and throat impediment，and panting. It is also good for joints as well as supplementing the center and boosting qi”， the authors in this study analyzed the administration characteristics of Cinnamomi Ramulus in Shang Han Za Bing Lun(Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscelllaneous Diseases) where he found that Cinnamomi Ramulus in the same formula is usually used for various purposes in a delicate way. Based on Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing， ZHANG Zhongjing adopted the administration of Cinnamomi Ramulus in a more flexible way. Therefore，the administration of Cinnamomi Ramulus in clinical practice should also consider the nature， flavour， effects and compatibility of Cinnamomi Ramulus，and it should be flexibly applied for treatment in line with the facts instead of only for certain syndrome.
