Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of acupoint catgut embedding combined with moxibustion on Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata cake on the treatment of intractable facial paralysis. Methods：A total of 62 patients with refractory facial paralysis were selected and randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group，with 31 cases in each group. Patients in the two groups were given rehabilitation training， and the control group was additionally intervened with conventional treatment；the treatment group was additionally treated with acupoint catgut embedding and moxibustion on Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata cake based on the treatment of the control group. After four weeks of treatment， the scores of Facial Disability Index of Physical Function(FDIP) and Facial Disability Index of Social Function(FDIS)，scores of of House- Brackmann(H- B) and clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Results：The total effective rate was 93.55% in the treatment group，significantly higher than that of 67.74% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference in FDIP and FDIS scores between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment， the FDIP scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the FDIS scores were decreased(P＜0.05)； the improvement of the above two indexes in the study group was more significant than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference in H-B score between the two groups(P＞0.05)；after treatment，the H-B scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the H-B score in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion： Based on the conventional western medicine，the therapy of acupoint catgut embedding combined with moxibustion on Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata cake is effective in treating refractory facial paralysis， which can better improve the symptoms，signs and facial nerve function of patients.
