Abstract： Objective： To observe the curative effect of Wucao Shenyan Decoction combined with Valsartan Capsules for chronic glomerulonephritis(CGN)， and its effect on Chinese medicine syndromes， kidney function and levels of serum hypoxia inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α)，urinary microalbumin(mALB) and α1- microglobulin(α1- MG). Methods： A total of 86 cases of patients with CGN were divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 43 cases in each group. The control group was given the oral administration of Valsartan Capsules，and the observation group was additionally treated with Wucao Shenyan Decoction based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effects and the incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups were observed. Before and after treatment， the changes in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome scores， levels of kidney function including urinary nitrogen(BUN) and creatinine(SCr)， hypoxia inducible factor- 1α(HIF- 1α)， interleukin- 8(IL- 8)， interleukin- 6(IL- 6)， tumor necrosis factor- α(TNF- α)， and values of urine indexes including urinary microalbumin(mAlb) and α1- microglobulin(α1- MG) in the two groups were compared. Results：The total effective rate of clinical effect was 90.70% in the observation group and 74.42% in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment， the scores of TCM syndromes including aching pain in lumbar vertebra，fatigue and lack of strength，puffy face and swollen limbs，poor appetite and abdominal distension， and shortage of qi and disinclination to talk in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the above five scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of BUN and SCr in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the levels of BUN and SCr in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of serum HIF-1α，urinary mAlb and α1-MG in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above three levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of IL- 8， IL- 6 and TNF- α in serum in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above three levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of Wucao Shenyan Decoction combined with Valsartan Capsules can improve the clinical symptoms of CGN patients， alleviate glomerular injury， and reduce inflammatory responses， promote the recovery of kidney function.
