Abstract： Objective： To observe the curative effect of the therapy of Gushen Qushi Prescription combined with western medicine on type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) complicated with metabolic syndrome and its effect on glucose and lipid metabolism and the kidney function. Methods： A total of 108 T2DM patients complicated with metabolic syndrome were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method，with 54 cases in each group. The control group was treated with western medicine， and the observation group was treated with Gushen Qushi Prescription combined with western medicine. Before and after treatment，the changes of levels of blood glucose， including fasting blood glucose(FBG)， glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc)， postprandial 2- hour blood glucose(P2hBG) and insulin resistance， blood lipid， including triglyceride(TG)， total cholesterol(TC) and low- density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL- C)， kidney function， including microalbuminuria， serum creatinine(SCr) and blood urea nitrogen(BUN)， and serum， including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)，nitric oxide(NO) and adiponectin(ADP)，were compared between the two groups. The incidence of adverse reactions was compared between the two groups. Results：After treatment，the levels of FBG， HbA1c， P2hBG and HOMA- IR in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above four levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of TG，TC and LDL-C in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above three levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of microalbuminuria，SCr and BUN in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the above three levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， the levels of VEGF and NO in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment， and the levels of ADP were increased， differences being significant(P＜0.05)； after treatment，the levels of VEGF and NO in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group， and the level of ADP in the observation group was higher， differences being significant(P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 9.26% in the observation group and 16.67% in the control group，there being no significance in the difference(P＞0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of Gushen Qushi Prescription combined with western medicine has a good curative effect on T2DM complicated with metabolic syndrome，which can reduce the level of blood glucose of the body，improve the level of blood lipid and kidney function，and alleviate the insulin resistance and inflammatory responses of the body.
