Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Guanxinning Pills combined with western medicine for chronic stable angina pectoris(SAP) complicated with depression. Methods： Eighty cases of chronic SAP patients with depression were average divided into two groups according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with routine western medicine，and the observation group was additionally treated with Guanxinning Pills based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for two months. Clinical effects and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Scores of Chinese medicine syndromes， Seattle Angina Questionnaire(SAQ)， Self- Rating Depression Scale(SDS)， and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale- 17(HAMD- 17) in the two groups before treatment and after one and two months of treatment were compared. Results：After one and two months of treatment，the scores of chest oppression and chest pain，palpitation，shortness of breath，mental depression，and irritability in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group during the same period(P＜0.05)； scores of physical limitations， angina severity， angina frequency， treatment satisfaction and disease awareness in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above five scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group during the same period(P＜0.05)；scores of SDS and HAMD- 17 in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the scores of SDS and HAMD- 17 in the observation group were lower than those in the control group during the same period(P＜0.05). The total effective rate was 92.50% in the observation group，higher than that of 80.00% in the control group(P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reaction was 7.50% in the observation group，lower than that of 25.00% in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion： Guanxinning Pills combined with western medicine for chronic SAP complicated with depression can improve clinical effects， effectively relieve clinical symptoms and reduce depression degree with high safety.
