SPSS, Cytospace 3.8.2 and other softwares were used to analyze the frequency, properties, flavors, meridian tropism, function category, association rules and clustering of Chinese medicines and medicines of medicinal and edible homology for treating dysmenorrhea. Results: A total of 765 prescriptions were included, involving 270 Chinese medicines and 65 Chinese medicines of medicine food homology. Common couplet medicines of medicinal and edible homology were Angelicae Sinensis Radix- Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Angelicae Sinensis Radix-Cinnamomi Cortex. Five core combinations of Chinse medicines were obtained by cluster analysis, and their main effects were: moving qi and removing blood stasis to relieve pain, soothing the liver and resolving depression to relieve pain, and activating blood and removing blood stasis to relieve pain. Five core combinations of Chinse medicines of medicinal and edible homology were obtained, and their main effects were: supplementing the liver and kidney, tortifying the spleen and replenishing qi, and tonifying the spleen and kidney. Conclusion: Chinese medicines of medicinal and edible homology for dysmenorrhea are usually medicines for qi- blood supplementing. In clinical practice, combinations including Angelicae Sinensis Radix-Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma , and Angelicae Sinensis Radix-Cinnamomi Cortex are commonly used. The main treatment methods are regulating and tonifying the body constituation by supplementing qi and nourishing blood, assisted by warming the interior and activating blood to relieve pain.
