Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture therapy combined with nimodipine tablets for vascular dementia. Methods: A total of 90 cases of patients with vascular dementia were selected and divided into the control group and the study group according to the random number table method, with 45 cases in each group. The control group was given oral administration of nimodipine tablets, and the study group was additionally treated with acupuncture therapy based on the treatment of the control group. Before and after treatment, the changes in high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) in serum, mental state shown by Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE),intellectual status by Hasegawa's Dementia Scale(HDS) and scores of Activities of Daily Living Scale(ADL) in the two groups were compared. Results:After treatment, the hs-CRP levels in serum in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the hs- CRP level in the study group was lower than that in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of MMSE and HDS in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment, and the scores of MMSE and HDS in the study group were higher than those in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). After treatment, the ADL scores in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment, and the ADL score in the study group was higher than that in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy combined with nimodipine tablets has a definite effect in treating vascular dementia, and can effectively inhibit inflammatory responses, and improve cognitive function, intelligence levels and activities of daily living.
