Abstract: Objective: To compare the respective clinical effect of catgut embedment in point and warming- needle moxibustion on moderate-to-severe simple obesity. Methods:A total of 80 patients with moderate-to-severe obesity were selected and divided into the control group and the study group according to the block randomization method, with 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with warming- needle moxibustion, and the study group was treated with catgut embedment in point. The levels of body weight, body mass index(BMI) and blood lipid before and after treatment as well as the clinical effect were compared between the two groups, and adverse reactions were recorded. Results: After treatment, the levels of body weight and BMI in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the above levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL- C) were increased(P<0.05). The levels of TC and TG in the study group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05);there were no significant differences in the LDL-C and HDL-C levels between the two groups(P>0.05). The total effective rate was 90.00% in the study group, higher than that of 72.50% in the control group(P<0.05). During the treatment, two patients in the study group showed slight subcutaneous stasis after embedding, which improved spontaneously within three days. No serious adverse reactions such as allergy and infection occurred in both groups. Conclusion:Both of catgut embedment in point and warming-needle moxibustion have good effect on weight and fat reduction in the treatment of moderate-to-severe simple obesity with great safety, but catgut embedment in point has better therapeutic effect.
