Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of external application with Wentong ointment combined with local block for frozen shoulder. Methods:A total of 78 cases of patients with frozen shoulder were selected and divided into the block group which was only treated with local block, the Wentong ointment group which was only treated with Wentong ointment, and the combination group which was treated with local block and external application with Wentong ointment according to the random number table method, with 26 cases in each group. Clinical effects after treatment for one week and two weeks were compared among the three groups. The changes in Constant Murley Shoulder Pain Scores, activities of daily living(ADL) scores, range of motion(ROM) scores and total score in the three groups before and after treatment were compared. The incidence of adverse reactions during treatment and the recurrence rate after three months in the three groups were observed. Results:After one-week treatment, the total effective rate was 73.08% in the block group,65.38% in the Wentong ointment group, and 84.62% in the combination group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). After two-week treatment, the total effective rate was 84.62% in the block group,76.92% in the Wentong ointment group, and 96.15% in the combination group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). After treatment for one week and two weeks, scores of shoulder pain and ADL in the three groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);and the two scores in the combination group were higher than those in the block group(P<0.05);the two scores in the block group were higher than those in the Wentong ointment group, differences being significant(P<0.05). After treatment for one week and two weeks, ROM scores and the total scores in the three groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);and the two scores in the combination group were higher than those in the block group(P<0.05);the two scores in the block group were higher than those in the Wentong ointment group, differences being significant(P<0.05). There was no obvious adverse reaction occurred in the three groups during treatment. After three months follow- up, the recurrence rate was 22.73% in the block group,25.00% in the Wentong ointment group, and 12.00% in the combination group, there being significance in the difference(P<0.05). Conclusion: External application with Wentong ointment combined with local block has a good curative effect on frozen shoulder, which can significantly relieve pain, improve the range of motion of shoulder joint, and reduce recurrence rate.
