Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of the therapy of modified Wendan tang combined with conventional western medicine on the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD). Methods：A total of 123 patients with GERD were selected and divided into the observation group(61 cases) and the control group(62 cases) according to different treatment methods. The control group was given conventional western medicine treatment，and the observation group was given modified Wendan tang based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effects，Chinese medicine syndrome scores and the condition of 24 h reflux were compared between the two groups. Results： The total effective rate was 96.72% in the observation group，higher than that of 85.48% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the scores of heartburn，acid reflux，bitter mouth，belching，abdominal distension and pharyngeal foreign body sensation in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment，and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the number of reflux over 5 min，the longest reflux time，the number of reflux at 24 h and the time of pH<4 in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment，and the above indexes in the observation group were lower than those in the control group， the difference being significant(P＜0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of modified Wendan tang combined with conventional western medicine has a good therapeutic effect on GERD，which can improve Chinese medicine clinical symptoms and reduce 24 h reflux.
