Abstract:Human growth is inseparable from five flavors,but a predilection for a particular flavor can lead to diseases. However,it is based on four qi and five flavors of Chinese medicine that the food with medicinal values can harmonize yin and yang to strengthen our body. Based on the exploration of the theoretical connotation of the tonification and purgation of five viscera theory in the Chapter 22 of Suwen,this paper discusses and analyzes the process of turning morbid state into normal state by the circular motion of ascending and descending qi movement of five viscera,and combines the above theory with the theory of the circular motion of five viscera. It is proposed to use the combination of five flavors to assist the circular motion of five viscera and keep the body in a good condition,which is using the sour,pungent and sweet flavors to promote the liver function of upbearing and effusion,the bitter,salty,sweet and sour flavors to tranquilize the heart,the sweet and bitter flavors to harmonize the spleen and stomach,the pungent,bitter and acid flavors to direct the lung qi downward,and the salty,bitter and pungent flavors to enrich water.
