Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of application shenque with compound Dahuang powder combined with lactulose for senile functional constipation. Methods：A total of 130 cases of senile patients with functional constipation were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method，with 65 cases in each group. The control group was treated with lactulose oral liquid， and the observation group was additionally treated with application shenque with compound Dahuang powder based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for two weeks. Before and after treatment，quality of life and constipation scores were compared between the two groups. Clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results： After treatment， scores of Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index(GIQLI) in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The total effective rate was 93.85% in the observation group，higher than that of 81.54% in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，scores of constipation in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 15.38% in the observation group，and 16.92% in the control group，there was no significance in the difference(P＞0.05). Conclusion：Application shenque with compound Dahuang powder combined with lactulose for senile functional constipation can effectively improve constipation symptoms，enhance clinical effect and quality of life with good safety.
