Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of SHENG's moxibustion combined with acupuncture and western medicine on the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at stable stage. Methods:A total of 74 COPD patients at stable stage were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group according to random number table method, with 37 cases in each group (with 34 cases in the observation group after three cases were out-ofstudy during treatment). The control group was treated with conventional western medicine, and the observation group was additionally treated with SHENG's moxibustion and acupuncture based on the treatment of the control group. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared, and the changes in the indexes related to pulmonary function, including forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1) and ratio of forced expiratory volume to forced vital capacity in one second(FEV1/FVC), score of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Assessment Test (CAT),score of Chinese medicine syndrome, and score of Short Form 36- Item Health Survey (SF- 36) in COPD patients were observed before and after treatment. Results:After treatment,Compared with the same group, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of values of FEV1 and FEV1/FVC before and after treatment(P>0.05) ; after treatment , there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the above two values between the observation group and the control group(P>0.05). After treatment, the CAT scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the CAT score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, differences being significant(P<0.05). After treatment, there were significant differences in the comparison of each score of Chinese medicine syndrome in both groups when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05);and there were significant differences in the comparison of each score of Chinese medicine syndrome between the two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, there were significant differences in the comparison of the scores of physiological function (PF), general health (GH), vitality (VT), mental health (MH), social function (SF),role-emotional(RE) and role-physiological(RP) in both groups when compared with those before treatment(P< 0.05) there was no significant difference between BP score compared with before treament. After treatment, the total effective rate was 88.24% in the observation group and 70.27% in the control group, the difference being significant (P< 0.05). In this study,a total of three patients were out-of-study,all of which were in the observation group. Among them, one patient had fainting and emotional tension, and two patients had itching and unbearable local skin after moxibustion by herbal cake,so three patients were out-of-study before all operations were completed. Conclusion:SHENG's moxibustion combined with acupuncture and western medicine in the treatment of COPD can relieve the clinical symptoms and improve the quality of life of patients.
