Abstract: Aiming at the clinical situation of complex intestinal obstruction, this paper discusses and summarizes the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease in the view of Chinese medicine and from the theoretical origin of phlegm turbidity, static blood, and the binding of phlegm and stasis in Chinese medicine. It is believed that phlegm and stasis are common etiological factors and inevitable pathological outcomes for the occurrence and development of complex intestinal obstruction. With the guidance of such theory, clinical treatment of complex intestinal obstruction should start with phlegm and stasis, and apply prescriptions that can resolve stasis and phlegm;by doing so,a good curative effect can be achieved.
