Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the clinical effect of SHEN's three-step method combined with five-animal exercises for chronic low back pain and its effect on rehabilitation in late stage. Methods:A total of 77 cases of patients diagnosed as chronic low back pain were divided into the treatment group and the control group, 38 and 39 cases in each group respectively. The treatment group was treated with SHEN's three-step method combined with five-animal exercises in late stage, and the control group was treated with routine tuina method combined with five- animal exercises in late stage. Before and after treatment and after six- month treatment, the changes in the total pain rating index(PRI) scores, PRI sensation scores, PRI emotional scores as well as present pain intensity(PPI) evaluated by Short- Form McGill Pain Questionnaire(SF- MPQ), and modified Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) scores were observed. Results: Before treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of McGill pain scores and VAS scores between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment and after six- month treatment, the McGill pain scores and VAS scores in the two groups were significantly improved when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05). After treatment, the improvement of McGill pain scores and VAS score in the treatment group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: SHEN's three-step method combined with five-animal exercises in the treatment of chronic low back pain has a certain role in the clinical effect and later efficacy maintenance.
