Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of modified Shugan Jianpi tang combined with western medicine therapy for children anorexia nervosa(AN). Methods: A total of 72 cases of AN children were selected and divided into the western medicine group and the integrated Chinese medicine and western medicine group according to the random number table method, 36 cases in each group. The western medicine group was given the oral administration of zinc gluconate solution and Medilac-Vita,and integrated Chinese medicine and western medicine group was additionally given self-made Shugan Jianpi tang based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were continuously treated for four weeks. Levels of trace elements in serum and Chinese medicine syndrome scores before and after treatment,as well as the clinical effect were compared between the two groups. Results: The total clinical effective rate was 94.44% in the integrated Chinese medicine and western medicine group, significantly better than that of 77.78% in the western medicine group(P<0.05). When compared with those in the same group before treatment, levels of calcium, iron, and zinc in serum in the two groups were increased after treatment(P<0.05, P<0.01); Chinese medicine syndrome scores of sallow complexion, lassitude of spirit, and anorexia were decreased(P<0.05, P<0.01). After treatment, when compared with those in the western medicine group, levels of calcium, iron, and zinc in serum in the integrated Chinese medicine and western medicine group were higher(P<0.05),and Chinese medicine syndrome scores of sallow complexion, lassitude of spirit, and anorexia were lower(P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of modified Shugan Jianpi tang combined with western medicine therapy is effective in the treatment of AN children, which can significantly accelerate the absorption of trace elements and improve clinical symptoms.
