Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Chinese medicine wet hot compress combined with meibomian gland massage for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD). Methods:A total of 80 cases of patients diagnosed with MGD were randomly divided into the control group and the treatment group,40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine western medicine, and the treatment group was additionally treated with Chinese medicine wet hot compress for softening hardness and dissipating binds as well as clearing heat and activating blood combined with meibomian gland massage based on the treatment of the control group. The Chinese medicine syndrome scores, the tear break-up time(BUT) and the total effective rate in the two groups were compared. Results:After four weeks, one month and three months of treatment respectively, the Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and BUT values were increased(P<0.01). Compared with those in the control group after four weeks and one month of treatment respectively, the Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the control group after three months of treatment were increased(P<0.01),and the BUT values were decreased(P<0.01). After four weeks, one month and three months of treatment respectively, the Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the treatment group were decreased when compared with those in the control group(P<0.05,P<0.01),and the BUT values were increased(P<0.05,P<0.01). After four- week treatment, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the total effective rates between the two groups(P>0.05). In three months after treatment, the total effective rate in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of Chinese medicine wet hot compress for softening hardness and dissipating binds as well as clearing heat and activating blood combined with meibomian gland massage for MGD can achieve better curative effect.
