Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture combined with Yi-cupping therapy on sciatica caused by lumbar intervertebral disc herniation(LIDP). Methods:Ninety patients with sciatica caused by LIDP were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the method of randomized single blind controlled trial, 45 cases in each group. The treatment group was treated with electroacupuncture combined with Yi-cupping therapy, while the control group was treated with warming acupuncture. Both groups were treated for 10 days. The clinical effect and the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and modified Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate and markedly effective rate in the treatment group were 95.6% and 75.6% , respectively, and the ones in the control group were 86.7% and 44.5% respectively. There was no significant difference in the comparison of the total effective rate between the two groups(P>0.05). The markedly effective rate in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and the VAS score in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). The scores of modified ODI in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01), and the one in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.01). Conclusion:Electroacupuncture combined with Yi-cupping therapy for sciatica caused by LIDP,can significantly relieve the clinical symptoms of patients, lessen their pain and improve their lumbar and leg functions, whose clinical effect is better than warming acupuncture.
