Abstract：Objective： To observe the clinical effect of blood-activating and turbid-downbearing method combined with western medicine for chronic renal failure，and to analyze its effect on levels of serum creatinine(SCr)，blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and uric acid(UA). Methods：A total of 64 cases of patients with chronic renal failure were randomly divided into two equal groups. The control group was given simple western medicine treatment； based on routine symptomatic western medicine treatment， the study group was additionally assisted with Chinese medicine of blood- activating and turbid downbearing method. Both groups were treated for six courses. The curative effect，the improvement of diseases and the levels of kidney function in the two groups were compared. Results： The total effective rate was 90.63% in the study group and 50.00% in the control group， the difference being significant(χ 2=5.67， P＜0.05). After treatment， the symptoms of soreness and weakness of waist and knees，fatigue，nausea and vomiting as well as chilliness and cold limbs in the study group were significantly relieved(P＜0.05)；in the control group，the symptom of fatigue was significantly relieved，and there was no significant difference being found in the other main symptoms(P＞0.05). The improvement of symptoms in the study group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of BUN，SCr and UA in the study group were decreased(P＜0.05)；in the control group，only the BUN level was significantly decreased(P＜0.05)，and there was no significant difference being found in the levels of SCr and UA(P＞0.05). After treatment， the control situation of levels of BUN，SCr and UA in the study group was better than that in the control group(t=4.27，4.86，4.12，P＜0.05). Conclusion： Blood- activating and turbid- downbearing method combined with western medicine for chronic renal failure has significant clinical effect，which can significantly improve levels of kidney function and effectively delay the progress of the disease.
