Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Qiming granules combined with compound Xueshuantong capsules for non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR). Methods：A total of 180 cases of NPDR patients were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method，90 cases in each group. The control group was treated with compound Xueshuantong capsules， and the observation group was treated with Qiming granules combined with compound Xueshuantong capsules. Both groups were treated for three months. The changes in Chinese medicine syndrome scores， the clinical effect， recovery of visual acuity and levels of endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in serum in the two groups were compared. Results：The total effective rate was 92.22% in the observation group， higher than that of 73.33% in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of Chinese medicine syndrome scores between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment， and the decrease in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment，there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of visual acuity between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，the visual acuity in the two groups was significantly improved when compared with that before treatment，and recovery in the observation group was significantly better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Before treatment， there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the levels of VEGF and insulin-like growth factor- 1(IGF-1) in serum between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，the levels of VEGF and IGF- 1 in serum in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment， and the decrease in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion： Compared with that of simple compound Xueshuantong capsule， the therapy of Qiming granules combined with compound Xueshuantong capsules for NPDR can enhance the clinical effect， relieve the clinical symptoms， improve the visual acuity and delay the development of the disease.
