Abstract：Objective：To observe the improvement effect of moxibustion with herbal cake on governor vessel on relief of residual pain after percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP) and the lumbar vertebra function of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures of kidney-deficiency and blood-stasis type. Methods：A total of 64 cases of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures of kidney- deficiency and blood- stasis type concomitant with residual pain after PKP were selected， and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method ， 32 cases in each group. The control group was given routine western medicine treatment，and the observation group was additionally given moxibustion with herbal cake on governor vessel based on the treatment of the control group. Before treatment as well as after two-week and four-week treatment，scores of pain and the lumbar vertebra function as well as Chinese medicine syndrome scores were compared between the two groups. Before treatment and after four- week treatment， indexes of bone metabolism were detected. Results： Before treatment， when compared scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)， Oswestry Disability Index(ODI)， and Chinese medicine syndrome scores between the two groups， there was no significance being found in differences(P＞0.05). After two-week and four-week treatment，scores of VAS and ODI as well as Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at the same time point，differences being significant(P＜0.05). Before treatment，when compared levels of bone alkaline phosphatase(BALP) and tartrate resistant acid phosphatase- 5b(TRACP- 5b) between the two groups，there was no significance being found in the difference(P＜0.05). After four- week treatment， BALP levels in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment，and TRACP-5b levels were decreased；BALP level in the observation group was higher than that in the control group，and TRACP-5b level was lower；differences were significant(P＜0.05). Results：Moxibustion with herbal cake on governor vessel can effectively improve symptoms and indexes of bone metabolism of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures with residual pain after PKP of kidney-deficiency and blood-stasis type，and relieve their pain.
