Abstract： Linggan Wuwei Jiangxin tang is a famous prescription of ZHANG Zhongjing in the treatment of cough with dyspnea. In recent years，many physicians have applied modified Linggan Wuwei Jiangxin tang to treat cough variant asthma (CVA) of cold- rheum type and achieved good curative effect. Through the understanding and treatment of CVA in Chinese medicine and western medicine，and the theoretical basis，pharmacological experiment and clinical study of Linggan Wuwei Jiangxin tang in treating CVA， it was systematically summarized the research survey of treating CVA from syndrome differentiation of rheum pathogen in this paper. The results showed that there is still a lack of basic and clinical research on the treatment of CVA with Linggan Wuwei Jiangxin tang. The reported clinical studies lack uniform standards in diagnosis of Chinese medicine， syndrome determination， and evaluation of curative effect， and future research can try making improvements in these aspects.
