Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of Chaihu Plus Longgu Muli tang on patients with minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE). Methods:A total of 78 cases of MHE patients were randomly divided into the control group and the experiment group, 39 cases in each group. The control group was treated with lactulose, and the experiment group was additionally treated with Chaihu Plus Longgu Muli tang based on the treatment of the control group. Chinese medicine syndrome scores, levels of blood ammonia as well the completion time of number connection test(NCT), the scores of digital symbol test(DST) and quality of life in the two groups were compared. Results:After treatment,Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and the score in the experiment group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment,the levels of blood ammonia and the completion time of NCT in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and DST scores were increased(P<0.05);the level of blood ammonia and the completion time of NCT in the experiment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05), and the DST score was higher(P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of physical health,mental health,social relationship and surrounding environment in the two groups were all increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);the scores of mental health and social relationship in the experiment group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion:The therapy of Chaihu Plus Longgu Muli tang combined with lactulose has definite curative effect in treating MHE,which can reduce the levels of blood ammonia and improve the quality of life of patients.
