Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Yiqi Tiaozhi tang combined with western medicine atorvastatin calcium tablets for carotid plaques. Methods：A total of 80 cases of patients with carotid plaques of qi deficiency with phlegm stasis type were randomly divided into two groups，40 cases in each group. Both groups were given the oral administration of atorvastatin calcium tablets，and the treatment group was additionally given Yiqi Tiaozhi tang. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks. After treatment，carotid intima-media thickness(IMT)，maximal plaque area，Crouse plaque scores，blood lipid as well as plasma adiponectin(ADPN) in the two groups were compared. Results：After treatment，IMT，maximal plaque area， Crouse plaque scores，total cholesterol(TC)，triglyceride(TG)，and low- density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL- C) in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)， and high- density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and ADPN were increased(P＜0.01)；IMT，Crouse score，TC and LDL-C in the treatment group were all lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05)，and HDL-C and ADPN were higher(P＜0.05). Conclusion：The therapy of Yiqi Tiaozhi tang combined with western medicine atorvastatin calcium tablets for carotid plaques can effectively reduce the carotid intima- media thickness and plaque thickness， and improve the blood lipid of patients as well as the levels of plasma adiponectin.
