Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of exercise combined with Buzhong Zhuzhang granules for idiopathic short statue(ISS). Methods:A total of 76 cases of ISS children were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group,38 cases in each group. The control group was given oral administration of Buzhong Zhuzhang granules,and the observation group was additionally treated with stretching exercise with moderate intensity based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for 12 months. The comparison of height, growth rate(GV), height standard deviation score(HtSDS), body mass index(BMI), chronological age/bone age(CA/BA), as well as the levels of growth hormone peak(GHP),insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1),and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3(IGFBP3) in serum were conducted between the two groups. The incidence of adverse reactions during treatment was observed. Results:After twelve months of treatment,the HtSDS was larger than that in the control group,difference being significant(P<0.05).After six months and twelve months of treatment,the GV in the observation group were larger than those in the control group, and the levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP3 in serum were higher than those in the control group,differences being significant(P<0.05). After six months and twelve months of treatment,there were no significant differences being found in the comparison of height,BMI,CA/BA,and the level of GHP in serum between the two groups(P>0.05). No adverse reaction occurred in the two groups during treatment. Conclusion: The therapy of exercise combined with Buzhong Zhuzhang granules can effectively promote the growth of ISS children with safe clinical use,whose mechanism is probably related to its promotion on the increase of levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP3 in serum.
