Abstract：Objective：To observe the effect of Zaoren Anshen capsules combined with lithium carbonate on sleep quality and quality of life in patients with insomnia in maintenance period of bipolar affective disorder. Methods：A total of 138 cases of patients with insomnia of heart- gallbladder qi deficiency type in maintenance period of bipolar affective disorder were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group，69 cases in each group. The control group was treated with lithium carbonate sustained- release tablets，and the observation group was additionally treated with Zaoren Anshen capsules based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were treated for two courses，four weeks being a course. Before and after treatment， sleep quality of patient was evaluated by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)， the state of mania by Bech-Rafaelsen Mania Scale(BRMS)，anxiety and depression by Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS) and Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)，and quality of life by 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). After treatment，the clinical effect and incidences of adverse reactions in the two groups were compared. Results：After treatment，the total effective rate was 92.75% in the observation group and 73.91% in the control group，the difference being significant(P＜0.05). The scores of BRMS， SAS， SDS and PSQI in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment， and the indexes in the observation group were lower than those in the control group， differences being significant(P＜0.05). The scores of quality of life in SF-36 in the two groups were higher than those before treatment，and the eight scores of quality of life in the observation group were higher than those in the control group，differences being significant(P＜0.05). Conclusion： The application of Zaoren Anshen capsules combined with lithium carbonate has definite curative effect in treating patients with insomnia in maintenance period of bipolar affective disorder， and can effectively improve insomnia， anxiety， depression and other negative emotions，so as to improve the quality of life of patients with few adverse reactions.
