Abstract：Objective：To observe the clinical effect of Gujie Liudu prescription for joint swelling and arthralgia after total knee arthroplasty(TKA). Methods： A total of 40 cases of patients undergoing TKA with postoperative joint swelling and arthralgia were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group，20 cases in each group. After surgery，the control group was given routine symptomatic treatment and rehabilitation training，and the observation group was additionally given the oral administration of Gujie Liudu prescription based on the treatment of the control group. Both groups were continuously treated for 14 days. After TKA， the circumferences at 10 cm above and below patella， the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)，and range of motion(ROM) were compared between the two groups. Results：On the 1st and 3rd days after surgery，when compared the circumferences at 10 cm above and below patella as well as the scores of VAS between the two groups，there was no significance in differences(P＞0.05). On the 7th and 14th days after surgery，the circumferences at 10 cm above and below patella in the observation group were smaller than those in the control group(P＜0.05)，and the scores of VAS were lower(P＜0.05). On the 3rd，5th，7th，and 14th days after surgery，ROM of affected limb in the observation group was larger than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：Gujie Liudu prescription can relieve swelling and pain of the knee joint of patients after TKA and improve function of the knee joint.
