Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of external application with Chinese herbal medicine combined with infrared ray for acute peripheral facial paralysis. Methods:A total of 62 cases of patients with facial paralysis were selected and divided into two groups according to the random number table method,31 cases in each group. The control group was given routine treatment, and the treatment group was additionally treated with external application with Chinese herbal medicine combined with infrared ray based on the treatment of the control group. The House- Brackmann(HB) facial nerve function ratings in the two groups at various time points were compared by the evaluation model of generalized estimation equation; the changes in the scores of facial paralysis was evaluated by mixed linear model. Results: The comparison between the two groups showed that the effect in the treatment group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05). According to the results of repeated measurements at various time points, with the increase of time and compared with that on the 30th day of treatment, the curative effect was better and better;there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of HB ratings by generalized estimation equation between 14 days of treatment and 30 days of treatment(P> 0.05);but the comparison result of the scores of facial paralysis analyzed by mixed linear model still showed significance in the difference(P<0.05),suggesting that the recovery slowed down from the 14th day of treatment to 30th day of treatment. Conclusion:The therapy of external application with Chinese herbal medicine combined with infrared ray for acute peripheral facial paralysis has better effect than that of routine treatment in the control group, and the effect will be better and better as the treatment time increases. Meanwhile, probably after a rapid recovery period within two weeks, the recovery will begin to slow down.
